How it Works for Students

Option 1: Search our List of Tutors.
Many tutors have posted their resumes, you can start by seeing if there is already a tutor out there who can help you be successful.
Option 2: Create your own Personalize Tutor Request.
There is a tutor out there for whatever you are looking for. They just may not know that you need their help. You can create your own personalized tutor request, and let the tutors come to you. We will also actively try to track down a tutor that meets your needs if one does not already exist on our website.

When you post your tutoring request, it will be listed on the website on the Find a Job page. Tutors will be able to search for students who are looking for someone with their skills. If a tutor believes that they can help you, then they will send you a tutor application through your tutor request posting. You can then decide to work with that tutor, ask for more information, or decline to work with that tutor.

We hope that you would see tutor resumes being submitted to your Tutor Request in 24-48hrs. However, it could take longer than that. If you are looking for a tutor “right now”, that may not be possible. Finding a quality tutor at the last minute for a same day tutoring appointment is a difficult ask.

We will actively try to hunt down tutors, who are already on the website or have yet to find the website, who have the skills you are looking for. This will take a little bit of time.

You can have your Tutoring Request listed in the Featured Request Section, and get more potential tutor eyeballs on it, by paying an additional fee when you initially create your Tutoring Request.

No, IWantTutoring.com does not vet the tutors list on the website.
IWantTutoring.com does not endorse any tutors listed on the website.

If you have a negative experience with a tutor, please contact us and let us know. We may remove tutors that we get too much negative feedback about.

Every tutor will either provide you a resume through your tutor request posting, or you can the find resumes of existing tutors in our List of Tutors.
However, you should feel free to ask tutors any questions you believe will help you get to better know the tutor, and whether they have the skills you need.
Some questions you might want to consider include:
– What experience do you have tutoring this specific subject?
– What does a typical tutor session look like?
– Where do you tutor?
– What is your availability?
– How much do you charge?
– How do you want to be paid?

No, the tutors listed on IWantTutoring.com are not paid in any way, or are in any way connected directly with IWantTutoring.com. IWantTutoring.com is a platform used to connect independent tutors with independent students.

The method of payment will be something you need to work out between you and your tutor. There are some tutor listing websites out there that want to act as a middleman and take a cut of the payment as they send that payment to the tutor on your behalf. IWantTutoring.com is in the business of connecting students and tutors. We are not in the business of facilitating payments to your tutor, and taking money out of your tutors pocket.

Most tutors these days except payment in the form of cash or through an online payment platform like Paypal, Venmo, Zelle, or some other option. You will want to confirm how the tutor wants to get paid before your session starts.

Most tutors want to get paid immediately upon completion of your tutoring appointment. So, it is important for you to be prepared to pay your tutor at the end of your tutoring session. This is definitely something you will want to agree upon with your tutor before the session starts.

Scheduling tutoring appointments will be arranged by you and your tutor. IWantTutoring.com does not engage in any part of the scheduling process.

Once you have scheduled a tutoring appointment, you should add that appointment to your personal calendar. If possible, you should also set a reminder notification on that appointment that reminds you of the upcoming appointment 24hrs ahead of the appointment, and also 1 hour before the appointment.

You will definitely want to know your tutors cancellation policy before scheduling an appointment.

If you need to cancel a tutoring appointment, you should contact your tutor as soon as you know that you need to cancel. Most tutors have limited hours they offer their tutoring services. The sooner a tutor knows that they can open an appointment time back up to other students, the more likely they will be to still be able to fill that time.

The amount you pay a tutor will vary from tutor to tutor. Generally the more experience a tutor has the more they charge.
Keep in mind with tutoring, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for.

It all depends upon what you and your tutor agree to, but basically your two options are in person (in the real world), or virtually (online).

I know that many of you had a poor experience with online learning during the pandemic. I would encourage you to remain open minded to the virtual option. Professional tutors usually have the tools in place to make a virtual meeting extremely successful. Your teachers were usually thrust into the virtual teaching model with little to know training on how to be effective at it.

Virtual tutoring allows you to find the best tutor available in the world, instead of just the best tutor available in your town. Also, you may not have someone in your town who is able to tutor you in the subject you need. Very often a virtual tutoring session can be recorded (and should be recorded) so that you can watch the tutoring session over and over again.

1) Decide where you all are going to meet. It should definitely be in a quiet public space. A public library is usually a good choice.
2) Agree on a rate for the session, a method for how to complete payment for the session, and when the payment is due.
3) Come prepared with questions. You want to come into an appointment knowing what you want to work on, and where you want to start. A tutoring appointment should not be another lecture, and a good tutor is there to answer your questions.
4) Show up on time (and even a few minutes early). You want the tutor to also be there on time or a little ahead of time.
5) Make sure you both know how to contact each other in case one of you is running late, needs to cancel, or you cannot find each other.

1) Make sure you know which online meeting technology you will be using (e.g. Zoom, Teams, Google Meet), and that you have it properly installed on your computer.
2) Confirm how to record or get a recording of you tutoring appointment. This is very helpful for going back over the material you have covered after the tutoring appointment.
3) Decide if you need to have your camera active during the appointment. Many people feel more comfortable with their camera turned off during an appointment. I would recommend having it turned off.

Unfortunately in the world we live in there are tons of SPAM-bots out there. In order to make sure the tutor requests are legitimate, we require a minimum payment ($2.99 per post) to list your tutor request on the website. This will go towards developing and maintaining the website, and also towards the time we put in to tracking down a tutor to help meet your needs.
